About us

Recovery Self Help Method Ireland is a registered Irish charity, registration number CHY 7690.

The organisation was established in Ireland in 1971. We are the Irish affiliate of Recovery International, which was founded in 1937 in Chicago, US.

Over the years Recovery Self Help Method Ireland has been known by a number of trade names including; Recovery Inc, Recovery International Ireland, and Abraham Low Self Help Systems.

The organisation is part-financed by a grant from the HSE and part-funded by voluntary donations from our members.

Governance

Recovery Self Help Method Ireland operates under a license agreement from its parent organisation Recovery International, based in Chicago, US.

In Ireland, the organisation is governed by a Board of directors, who are responsible under company law for its affairs.

The Board of Directors is nominated and voted in post by the seven original company subscribers as set out in the Memorandum & Articles of Association. [Click link]

Currently Charles leads a number of the Online Zoom Recovery meetings and also the face to face meeting on a Tuesday night in Rathgar

Dermod Grennan - Retired / Resigned

 

Dermod served as Group Area Leader until 31st Dec 2020.

"I am resigning from my position as Company Secretary and Company Director at Recovery Self-help Method Ireland Co Limited by Guarantee: and Group leader of Drumcondra Recovery Group. This is effective from 31/12/2020 onwards. 

I have decided to leave my post because I am pursuing a different career path. I have really enjoyed my time here at Recovery International/Self-help Method Ireland Company Limited by Guarantee. 

For 44 years it has never felt it like work because of your warm and welcoming attitude inside the office and at the meeting place. I felt fortunate to have been part of such a passionate and dedicated team. It is just sad that my best decision regarding my own future must be to leave RI International to follow my ultimate desire to work within the mental health industry.

For the remainder of my time here I will make sure that I leave no task unfinished. Thank you very much for your encouragement and support. I wish for the company's continued success going forward.

Group Leaders

The services of the organisation are delivered by trained and highly experienced volunteers, known as Group Leaders. The Group Leaders generously give up their free time, 50 weeks of each year often for many years to help train members in this proven method of self-help for poor mental health.
